About MEX phone
The terms MEX telephone and MEX telephony are common to those who work with telephony for companies and something that we at Dstny work with every day. With the help of a MEX telephone, an employee of a company can connect their mobile phone to the company’s PBX. By means of the MEX function you can thus get the traditional PBX functions, which you get from a fixed gear solution, into your mobile phone. In this way, employees can get their company PBX into the mobile phone and thus manage the company PBX no matter where they are.

What is MEX?
When you hear the word MEX it is easy for the thoughts to wander of to Mexico, or maybe your you get a mouth watering picture of “Tex Mex” in your mind. Unfortunately, in the corporate telephone world, MEX may not provide as much pleasure for the taste buds, but MEX provides all the more when it comes to increased efficiency and mobility of employees. MEX is an abbreviation of Mobile Extension, thus a mobile connection, and enables employees to reach and manage the company’s PBX through their mobile phones. Today, it is becoming increasingly common for employees to be allowed to work from home or to have the need to be able to work when they are on the move and MEX participates in making this possible.
A MEX phone allows all calls to go through the company’s PBX solution and is then forwarded to the right person and telephone. Mobile calls are also allowed to go through the company PBX with important information, such as referral and line status. Thus, if you as an employee are, for example, are busy in conversations or referred to a meeting. Everyone at the company can activate MEX on their subscriptions, which means that all employees can take the PBX wherever they go.
MEX lets you have the best of both worlds
A traditional fixed PBX, the ones standing and gathering dust down in the basement with hundreds of cables plugged into it, has many good benefits. They were steady and come with all functionality, such as referral and line state. The calls were made from a desk phone which had a cord directly connected to the fixed PBX. Steady, functional but not particularly agile. When the first mobile PBXes came, around the turn of the century, all of a sudden, staff were given a completely new freedom. Now there was a simpler version of the business PBX directly in your mobile. Unfortunately, these mobile PBXes lacked the same functionality, were not particularly user-friendly and forced ALL of employees to use a mobile.
With today’s cloud-based business telephony and MEX phones, you get the functionality of a fixed PBX with the mobility and agility of a mobile PBX. Employees can choose whether they want a mobile phone or call from a desk phone (a so-called IP phone). It is simply the best of both worlds.
What’s good about MEX?
A MEX phone allows employees to have the company PBX directly in the mobile phone. This means that even if customers dial a fixed telephone number, such as a sales number, it can still ring out on colleagues’ phones. The people who receive calls from a specific number are then included in a response group, that is, a group of people who have access to the same number. By allowing more people to handle certain specific numbers, you can ensure that the distribution of work is more evenly distributed among the employees than it would have been if each employee had their own specific number.
A call comes in to the company’s PBX and can then be disconnected to a mobile phone with MEX. This way, the mobile phone gets the same functionality as a traditional fixed exchange. With a MEX phone, employees can now receive calls from a group number, forward calls, choose whether they want to call out from a fixed number or a mobile number and manage their referral. All directly from the mobile phone.
Of course, this makes it much easier to receive and redirect calls even if one or more employees work remotely. As long as the person in question is connected to the mobile network, calls can be forwarded further, so you can as well be in Skåne as in Norrbotten.
MEX is cost effective
By activating MEX on mobile phones you get a solution that is both simple and mobile, and which is also often very cost effective. You sign a subscription with your company telephone provider and ask them for the MEX function. Instead of paying for expensive mobile calls, all calls that is made via the mobile will now go through thePBX. With many providers of corporate telephony, this means that all internal calls within the company will be free of charge. The price for calls outside the internal network is determined by the supplier’s agreement.
If you also sign up for a subscription that with a maximum price you get very good control over the company’s telephone costs.
By signing a company subscription with MEX telephone, employees get the opportunity to work remotely. With a MEX phone, colleagues can make calls and refer, just like with a fixed PBX.
